Matt mentioned something about teaching in HK…and I looked into it…
Sounds kinda interesting to me actually… salaries range from $2300USD/month to $4000USD/month plus room and board, and a stipend.
Doesn’t require a teaching degree, but does require a bachelores degree… 🙂 Horray for school. $57.6K/cdn a year plus room and board, and a stipend… not bad at all (well that’s the high end ones).
I have no interest in teaching in Japan… but I do have a interest to possibly live in HK… and this maybe an way to do it.
I may give it more thought later…

Teaching English in HK?

Ying's moving to TW…
Ying’s leaving today for good.
It’s kinda sucks, where I never got to spend much time with her…
Oh well, there’s always skype and msn. -
Learning guitar
Ja and Matt are attempting to teach me how to play the guitar.
They forewarned that playing will lead to calluses on your finger tips. And are they right. I’ve got a blister on my left index finger.
Though, the two little rifts they taught me did stick in my head. But I think they actually taught me three… I can’t remember the first one. It was a little more complicated. heh. -
Simple pleasures in life
Yesterday was such a beautiful day.
I accomplished so much in the span of the day.
Had good food, panzerroties from the local pizzeria and grilled chicken on a greek salad.
Sat in the sun, smoked a good cuban cigar, having some fine jamacian rum and vanilla coke while read a book by Philip K Dick – The Minority Report.
The Minority Report, is just one of the short stories that are in that book. It’s a compilation of serveral short stories.
After all that lounging I decided to wash my car and driveway.
That got me in a productive mood, so sat down and nearly finished writing the adminsitration backend for my client. Just need to tweak a few things, and all should be good.
All in all, a very productive day. Hope the rest of summer can be like this. -
State of international industrial suppliers
Here’s the situation.
I’m looking to purchase a few items, the total varies from $41USD + shiping, to $90CDN + taxes (locally). If I do next day, overnight delivery, it’s like $35USD. It’s still cheaper to do it from down in the states, saves me from driving anywhere.
I’m blabbing.
My point is, how can a local market compete, when there is a cheaper solution, that’s more convienient online?
And even across a different contenent. Forexample, I was not able to find an eprom programmer cheaply anywhere in North America. I bought it from a guy in HK. And a daughter board from Thailand. Or was it Vietnam?
K, fine, maybe it’s assembled from child labour, but the workmanship was decent, and it’s a silk screened board, with all the bells and whistles. Made from quality 3M zif sockets, and what not.
Is it that these immerging markets know how to compete? Is the North American market so greedy, that they won’t make a sale, unless it hits a given profit margin?
Is profit not profit? Albeit, if you only make a few pennies, it’s not worth while, unless you’re doing high volume. But common?
Another example, local market wanted to charge me $380CDN + taxes for a precision drill chuck. I was able to get that from the states at $169+shipping.
I asked if they would compete, and they were a blatant “No, we cannot do that”.
The place I got it from price competed with another location as well, to give me the price I wanted.
Heck, I was a happy customer, and am willing to go back to them without much issue. Or even their sister companies.
