introduction to http://ping.fm

Tuesday, September 16th, 2008

I was off to lunch with a few co-works, and Stephen Evans told me about http://ping.fm.  I never heard of it, so I went back to my desk after lunch, and found it.

synopsis: ping.fm updates all status updates for a bunch of places:

  • Linkedin (I don’t know where status msgs are placed…)
  • facebook
  • twitter
  • this blog (via plugin)
  • various others places… (see ping.fm)

Updates can be sent from a phone, gtalk, http://ping.fm, email, bunch of methods…

so, now I can update one place, and microblog to all the usual spots.  MSN WLM bot doesn’t work…

Got troubles with your blogspam?

Want to get rid of blogspam, or at least stem the tide of rushing spew that goes to your blog?

For wordpress, as that’s what matters to me, install akismet, and spamkarma. If one doesn’t catch it, the other will.

Akismet is already installed as part of the default install of the latest wordpress (requires a free api key).

Spamkarma is really free.

Freak’n cool!

Here’s the excerpt:
Built out of kevlar and carbon fiber, this miniature figher jet can reach speeds upwards of 280 M.P.H. The models use small jet turbines, functionally identical to those used in actual full-sized jets to achieve remarkable speeds and flying precision.

Teaching English in HK?

Friday, December 9th, 2005

Matt mentioned something about teaching in HK…and I looked into it…

Sounds kinda interesting to me actually… salaries range from $2300USD/month to $4000USD/month plus room and board, and a stipend.

Doesn’t require a teaching degree, but does require a bachelores degree… :) Horray for school. $57.6K/cdn a year plus room and board, and a stipend… not bad at all (well that’s the high end ones).

I have no interest in teaching in Japan… but I do have a interest to possibly live in HK… and this maybe an way to do it.

I may give it more thought later…

cheat sheets

Nanotechnology kills cancer cells Carbon nanotubes, binded with proteins to lock onto receptors that are cancer specific. Insert a few thousand of these, and add near Infrared light to them, and the nanotubes heat up, killing the cell.
